Cabgrass and barnyardgrass are largely confined to the central Nebraska area, while kochia and black nightshade are most prevalent in the Panhandle. Varied infestations of green foxtail, redroot pigweed, and common lambsquarters cover the entire sugar beet in Nebraska. Some buffalobur, common sunflower and marshekder can be found in most fields. Wild buckheat can be found in some fields in the Panhandle and Pennsylvania smartweed in some fields in central Nebraska. Bristly foxtail is increasing in the central area. Kochia is the most difficult annual weed to control in sugar beet fields because of morphological features and germination habit. |
